The Junior Champions Program at the Champions Center is a year-round program
consisting of players ages 7-12, hand selected by our coaching staff. In addition to
the standard elements of our Advanced-Tournament-Training and Advanced
Development Programs, the Junior Champions Program is more intense and offers
additional benefits.
The goal of this program is to develop young players who possess the talent,
character, work ethic and desire to eventually enter our Champions Program. In this
program, players are introduced to High Performance Training and receive subsidized
pricing, proper tennis technique training, match play, fitness training, local tournament
coaching, video analysis, evaluation and after-school tutoring.
It is very important that tennis stays “fun” for our players while they learn. Below are the basic principles of our Junior Champions Program:
Tennis Practice and Match Play
Players in the Junior Champions Program typically practice 2-4 days per week. Players begin
with progressive drills focused on fundamental footwork and technique, continued by soft ball
hitting, drop ball drills, fed-ball drills and live ball drills. The last half hour of court time includes serve
and return drills using throwing motion exercises and games using the serve. The last 30-40 minutes of
practice typically consists of situational point-by-play drills, games or practice sets of singles and doubles.
Fitness Training
Players in the Junior Champions Program concentrate on plyometric, agility, dynamic stretching and flexibility as well as tennis
specific movements. Ultimately, this training makes them more effective in competitive situations and better athletes overall.
Fitness training is 30 minutes long.
Summer Training
The annual tuition includes certain number of weeks of intense summer training based on how many times
per week each player participates in during the regular school year. Summer training consists of
tennis practice, matches, fitness, and free hit. The summer schedule is
Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm.
