Vesa Ponkka, Senior Director of Tennis
- Vesa has over 30 years of playing and coaching experience at the highest levels of tennis: USTA, ITF, NCAA, Davis Cup, WTA, and ATP and he has PTR, USPTA, and USTA High Performance certification.
- His students have won numerous professional and national titles, achieved the #1 ITF Junior World Ranking, several #1 USTA National Rankings, and NCAA All American honors.
- Vesa was an original member of JTCC as a small start-up in 1999. Since then, he has been one of the instrumental driving forces in establishing JTCC among the best training centers in the world.
- Vesa feels privileged to have served as a teacher and mentor for thousands of young players and believes that coaching education is critical to the growth of USA tennis.

Chuck Kriese, Senior Director of Competition and Coaching
- Chuck coached the Clemson men’s tennis team from 1975-2008. He ended his career as the ACC's winningest coach, led the Tigers to 10 ACC championships, and has 685 wins.
- Kriese is a six-time ACC Coach-of-the-Year honoree, as well as a five-time Southern Tennis Coach-of-the-Year winner. He also won the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year, and was the two time United States Professional Tennis Association National Award Winner.
- Chuck has authored five coaching and training books over the years including, Coaching Tennis, Total Tennis Training, Winning Tennis, Youth Tennis, Where The Tigers Play, and A History of Clemson Athletic.
- Eight of Chuck’s players have achieved a top 100 ATP professional ranking and he has coached 5 Junior Grand Slam Champions.
- He is a member of the Clemson University, South Carolina, and Tennessee Tech Athletic Hall of Fames.
- Chuck served as the United States National Coach from 1980-1982
- A native of Indianapolis, IN, Kriese has an undergraduate degree in secondary education and math. He also has a graduate degree in health and physical education from Tennessee Tech.

Frank Costello, Senior Director of Fitness
- A former world-class athlete, Frank was a two time NCAA High Jump Champion and five time NCAA All- American.
- He has 35 years experience working with top athletes and has been named U.S. National Track and Field Coach of the Year four times.
- Frank is the former Head Strength Coach for the Washington Capitals of the NHL.
- He is the former Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Assistant Athletic Director as well as the Head Track and Field Coach for the University of Maryland.
- At Maryland, Frank was twice voted NCAA Track Coach of the Year and was inducted into the University of Maryland Hall of Fame.
- He was honored in 1998 as the top ISAA strength and conditioning coach in the country, receiving the prestigious Stan Jones Award.
- Frank was JTCC’s first Director of fitness and has experience working with top professional players including Paul Golstein and Vera Zvonareva.

Komi “Oliver” Akli, Director of High Performance
- Lome, Togo
- Oliver joined the Champions Center coaching team during the summer of 2000
- As a senior professional, Oliver works with several players of all ages and levels and works with many of the top nationally ranked players
- He leads a number of Club group clinics for adults and juniors and teaches private lessons
- He has had many coaching successes including working with players who have won USTA and ITF titles
- Olver strives to give his best to his students every day, and hopes to help them reach their goals whether in college or on the ATP or WTA tour
- Oliver is USPTR/USPTA High Performance certified.
- Coaching Philosophy: Oliver believes that true champions understand the importance of discipline and being tough. His is determined to make the Champions Center one of the best training facilities in the world by instilling a strong work ethic, determination, and discipline in every player

Alisama “Ali” Agnamba, Director of Junior Champions
- Lome, Togo
- Upon arriving in the U.S., Ali served as practice partner to Venus and Serena Williams
- He then moved to the DC metro area where he served as a coach in the Georgetown Day Boy’s Tennis Program
- Ali’s greatest personal achievements were playing for the Togo Davis Cup team in the Olympics
- As a member of the Champions Center coaching staff, Ali heads the Junior Champions Program, the first tier for committed junior players ages 7-11.
- He is USPTR/USPTA High Performance certified
- Ali’s coaching philosophy is to emphasize discipline, focus and a positive approach to tennis and life. Ali strives to help others realize their goals.

Mikhail “Misha” Kouznetsov, Senior Professional
- Moscow, Russia
- Misha’s takes great pride in coaching top international tennis players at Champions Center. Prior to working at JTCC, Misha coached three top 10 nationally ranked players and was Head Coach at Division I Robert Morris University in Pennsylvania.
- Misha’s goal is to develop a player that achieves success on the ATP or WTA tours. More importantly, he hopes to help many children become positivity impacted by participating in tennis.
- Misha’s coaching philosophy is to develop a strong technique for a player while concentrating on their future improvements. He defines a champion as a person who is not just a great tennis player but a great individual, someone who has a strong work ethic and a great attitude towards life. He believes “a champion is someone who overcomes challenges, learns from them, and becomes stronger!”

Kyle Bailey, Senior Professional
- Spent 2 years as Asst Coach at Maryland. Reached ITA national team ranking of #45 in the country
- Spent 2 years as Head Coach at American University and had a 29-15 record at AU, including a 12-3 conference mark. He led American to the 2005 Patriot League Regular-Season Title and placed six players on the All Patriot League Team
- A three-year captain of the American University tennis team, Kyle competed in the NCAA Tournament from 2001-2003. In addition, he was an All-Patriot League selection and team MVP in 2003. He excelled off the court, as a double major in business administration and public communications and a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Academic Dean's List in 2002 and 2003

Brandyn Fisher, Staff Professional
- Brandyn was the head mental training coach at Academia Sanchez-Casal in Naples, Florida and was an AS-C academy tennis coach. While with AS-C, Brandyn had the opportunity to work with world-renowned coaches Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal.
- He has earned a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology from West Virginia University, one of the premier programs in the world, and is nearing completion of a PhD in the same discipline. Additionally, he has a Master’s degree in Counseling, also from WVU.
- While in graduate school, Brandyn served as an assistant tennis coach with the women’s tennis team for two years.
- As an active proponent of continued education, he has presented at numerous coaching conferences, including the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and various USPTA events, and has contributed sport psychology articles to various coaching publications.
- Brandyn’s coaching certifications include the USPTA, RPT, and AS-C Professional Coach.

Nikola Andjelic, Staff Professional
- Originally from Kikinda, Serbia, Nikola became a tennis and head fitness coach at Academia Sanchez-Casal in Naples, FL.
- During his career at Barton College (NC) he had more than 190 career wins, received three all-conference awards and was voted as team MVP. He excelled off the court with four consecutive ITA All-Academic Team awards while double majoring in Computer Information Systems and Business Administration and graduated with honors
- After college, Nikola became an assistant coach at West Virginia University. During his two and a half years at WVU, he completed his MBA and Masters in Athletic Coaching Education. Afterwards, Nikola coached at the Academia Sanchez-Casal and Saddlebrook where he trained several players ranked top 20 in the nation.
- He believes that great players must be well rounded with a strong desire to improve their skills and personalities every day of their lives. Players must be aware of their weaknesses and not avoid them, but rather work on turning them into the strengths. He hopes that after their tennis careers, players will use skills acquired at JTCC to overcome problems they will face in real life.
- Coaching certifications include PTR, RPT and AS-C professional coach.

Mark Santangelo, Teacher/Literature
Mark hails from New Jersey, where he attended public schools in Lawrenceville. From there, he attended Yale University, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelors of Arts in History. He moved to the Washington area in 1993, and entered the graduate program in American History at George Washington University, receiving a Masters in Philosophy in 1998. He is the co-author of The Medical Follow-up Agency: The First Fifty Years, 1946-1996 (National Academy Press, 1999), and has written several articles for peer-reviewed academic journals. Mark has also presented a number of papers at academic conferences. He joined the staff of the Tennis Center of College Park in 2006. |

Michelle Ming, Teacher
Michelle was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in Washington, DC and Colorado. She attended Colorado State University and received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1987, with an emphasis in secondary education. Michelle then attended graduate school for a year but left to become a full-time high school math instructor while continuing to take courses over the years to keep her skills current. After having taught high school mathematics for nearly ten years, she spent one year in the private industry as a Software Test Engineer for a NASA contractor, another year as a STE for a POS company and then two years as a Technology Coordinator for DeMatha Catholic High School. One of Michelle’s greatest teaching achievements is being nominated for Teacher of the Year at Thomas Jefferson High School in Colorado. Being a lifelong learner, Michelle believes that education is a powerful value that she hopes to impart to all her students. Michelle also plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Education. |

Mats Wilander - Senior Advisor
Mats is a former #1 player in the world and winner of seven Grand Slam Singles titles. He finished 1988 ranked #1 in the world and helped Sweden win The Davis Cup in 1984, 1985 and 1987. Mats won his fourth Grand Slam Singles title at the age of 20, making him the youngest player in history to accomplish this feat. Mats has coached top ATP players such as Marat Safin, and Paul-Henri Mathieu.
In 2002, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Mats stays involved in tennis through commentating and serving as Captain of Sweden’s Davis Cup team. In the fall of 2010 he became a special advisor to JTCC. He provides guidance to JTCC players and coaches regarding mental toughness and commitment to high performance training.

Vic Braden - Senior Advisor
Vic Braden is regarded by many as the most knowledgeable tennis coach in the world. A graduate of Kalamazoo College (Michigan, B.A.); Los Angeles State College, M.A.; Doctoral Studies, USC; additional graduate studies, University of Toledo and UCLA; and as a Licensed psychologist, Vic has authored six books, contributed to publications such as Sports Illustrated, appeared on popular television shows including NBC’s Today Show, hosted his own television shows on PBS and ESPN, provided televised tennis commentary for numerous professional events, and produced his own instructional and motivational videos.
His passion and devotion to sports, particularly tennis, have been the driving forces behind a life led seeking a better understanding of the human attraction to sport, as well as a better way of coaching those who are inevitably drawn to compete.

Pat Etcheberry - Senior Advisor
Pat is one of the world’s foremost experts in the field of sports fitness and movement. Pat has trained many tennis Champions who have won more than ninety Grand Slam tournaments including, Justine Henin, Pete Sampras, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Jennifer Capriati, Martina Hingis, and Jelena Jankovic.
He serves as Director of the Etcheberry Sports Performance division at the Saddlebrook Resort, where he develops both world class professionals and aspiring players in many sports including tennis, golf, football, swimming, and speed skating.

Raymond Benton - CEO
One of the most experienced executives in the tennis industry, Ray is the CEO of JTCC and the Tennis Center at College Park.
His career has included every facet of the business of tennis. He was a teaching professional for eight years, a college coach, and served as the first National Executive Director of the National Junior Tennis League, which was founded by Arthur Ashe.
Ray’s entrepreneurial experience includes being President of ProServ, a leading sports management firm, and founder and operator of the Nuveen Tour, a worldwide senior tennis circuit featuring Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg.
