A famous sportsman once said, “Never underestimate the heart of a champion.”
At the Champions Center, we would amend that phrase to include “brains” as well
as heart. No person can truly be considered a champion who can only succeed in
one aspect of his or her life. To that end, the students enrolled in our academic
program are engaged in a full course of college-prep study in an environment that
encourages individual success at all levels. In any given week, the student may be
engaged in group discussions on works of literature, participating in biology or
chemistry labs, or researching the economic and political underpinnings of ancient
civilizations.
Full-time faculty members, whose academic specialties range from History and
English through Math and the Sciences, work with the students to create a yearlong
program of study (through partnership with the Laurel Springs School’s fully accredited
distance learning program), and break that down into weekly study plans. Our faculty
and tutors work directly with the students to ensure that they are challenged to grow
intellectually. A mind that is regularly challenged in the classroom will invariably be well
suited to guide our Champions better on and off the courts.
With specific regard to mathematics and science, we focus on providing a college-preparatory program
which includes (but is not limited to) algebra, geometry, trigonometry, biology, chemistry, physics,
and a host of other courses designed to help a student succeed and master the skills needed for college.
In our distance-learning curricula every student can find coursework that fits his or her skill level
and interest.
We also offer junior high mathematics and science courses for our younger students.
At the school, we strive to parallel the skill, discipline, and training demands on the tennis court, in order to develop students who are prepared for future life endeavors – wherever life way take them.
The secret of education lies in respecting the pupil. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
